Happy Saturday, everyone and welcome to my blog! I suppose this is the part where I tell you all about my day and/or how you can relate ... I don't know, this is all new to me! But since this is my first blog post, I suppose I should tell you about myself and how I came to be doing what I am doing.
My name is Kristin! I live in Tucson, Arizona with my Air Force pilot of a husband, Brandon and our two children, Bryson (9.5) and Emma (2). We also have a menagerie of pets that we just can't live without ... two horses (Ollie & Pony), two dogs (Talon & Scout), two cats (Lilly & Olaff), and three goats (Peanut, Butter, & Jelly)! I'm the type of person that can't say no to any animal ... my husband can, but in the end, he always gives in!
I went to school for Sociology at the University of Arizona (Bear Down!), and after college, I stuck around Tucson trying to find my feet. I worked as a competitive cheerleading and tumbling coach for 8 years, was a retail manager for 3, and worked in behavioral health for a few years after that. Once my husband was accepted to pilot training in Texas, he told me I should take a hiatus from working as we planned on expanding our family; so I turned in my keys and became a house-wife!
But I wasn't fulfilled. Of course I love spending time at home with my children and the animals, but before Emma came along when Bryson would be in school, I would be beside myself with boredom. I mean how many times a week can I go to the grocery store, then the gym, then home to clean the already immaculate house?? Ok fine, maybe not immaculate, but you catch my drift.
Just to backtrack, I've always had a camera in my hands. From Polaroid, to disposable, to the first digital cameras released ... I was always taking photos of my girls during practices and competitions, animals everywhere I went, just memories .... so I went out and bought a Nikon D3400 and decided to start playing around. I used my son, our dog Scout, and the neighbor dog Cairo to practice movement, angles, lighting, everything! Once I started to get a good feel, I reached out to some squadron spouses to see if they wanted updated family photos. One thing led to another and I started gaining a wonderful following in Texas! But my gear was lacking and it was time for an upgrade, so I purchased a D7500 to see what it could do.
Once we moved back to Arizona, my following continued to grow. After all, I was from here ... I had a lot of family and friends who supported me and my growing ventures. So with the growth came time for many more upgrades ... I bought a D750 and a D850 and to this day, both of those camera bodies remain my primary and backup builds! I only shoot with Tamron lenses (after all, nothing compares!) with a couple of NIKKOR lenses thrown in for support.
So it's been almost four years since I began this journey and I haven't looked back! I would gladly make the same choices to give up my career in behavioral health to do what I do every single day. Because as the old adage goes, when you do what you love, it will never feel like work!
I started this whole thing with an emphasis on families, but as I dipped my toe into more and more areas of photography, I realized I just have a passion for capturing people's greatest memories. So whether it be welcoming a new baby into the world, pledging your love for one another at the alter, or just capturing your toddler's first bite of cake ... I enjoy every session!
I don't know where this journey will continue to take me; after all, I live at the Air Force's command. But I love where I am, and always look forward to where it is headed!
So stay tuned for more blog posts from me where I will discuss more aspects of the photography world, share some of my favorite sessions, the stories behind the photos, and just life in general!
Thank you for following along and I look forward to embarking on this new, blog-filled adventure with you!
